CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTATION

The GP2 Series represents the unique and natural launching pad to F1, taking place during the same European F1 Grand Prix weekends. The commitment with the F1 Grand Prix and the car’s performance, which is very similar to F1 cars, makes the GP2 Series the only training camp to comply with the demands that high-level motor sport requires.

Bernie Ecclestone and Bruno Michel have created the GP2 Series project in 2004, and the year after, the GP2 Series Opening Season started its history with 12 teams on the starting grid. In 2006, Trident Racing, was selected and chosen from 10 of the best teams in the motorsport field.

2007 concluded the first three-year technical cycle for the GP2 Dallara-Renault one seater and, in the meantime, a new car model, more similar to a F1 both for the performance and design was presented.

Besides the European Series (GP2 Main Series), in 2008, the GP2 Asia Series was launched and conceived to expand GP2’s great success in the Middle East (Cina, Dubai, Bahrain & Malaysia), markets where the interest in motorsport is growing and developing. During the years, the Asian Series endured several changes becoming a training camp for the GP2 Main Series both for Teams and Drivers.

2010 represents the last year for the second three-year cycle for the GP2 Dallara-Renault one seater and furthermore, the new team selection took place bringing Trident once again to be selected and chosen through the many teams that requested entry.

In 2011, the new Dallara-Renault car is always more and more close to the F1 car’s performance. The new car will be used for the Main and Asia GP2 Series permitting the teams to improve their work on the study of one car in particular.
